Updates: Story staleness; Story positions in the column

Story “staleness” has long been hardcoded into Shortcut as a thermometer that turned up on any Story cards that sat in a Workflow state for more than a few days. While it was undoubtedly a helpful indicator for many, it couldn’t be configured or turned off.

After many of you mentioned you’d like more flexibility with this feature, we decided to give it a refresh.

If your organization or Project values knowing when a Story has been in a workflow state for an inordinate amount of time, you can now set Days until stale in the Project settings; those Stories will then have a visible indicator of staleness (now an hourglass rather than a thermometer) on the Story board. We also allow you to the disable the feature if it is not useful to your team. Check out our Help Center article for more details.

In other news, those of you who have been around for a while know that we went back and forth about whether to put new and moved Stories at the top of the column where people could easily find them or down at the bottom, and we’ve settled on putting them at down at the bottom.

We think this will help prevent new Stories from skipping ahead of older Stories that had already been prioritized and keep work progressing smoothly. Let us know how that works for you!
