Meet the team: Andrew Childs, Co-Founder of Clubhouse

Clubhouse

What Do You Do?

I’m the co-founder of Clubhouse Software. I’m responsible for our UI/UX design and client-side code.

Where did you go to school?

I studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Painting? So how did you get into what you’re doing now?

When I graduated I didn’t really know what I was doing and needed some way to support myself, and web design seemed interesting. This was back when people were building static websites in Flash 4, so a lot has changed since then. It’s obviously a different field but I was able to apply a lot of what I learned at RISD.

Why Clubhouse?

There are many dozens of project management tools out there already, such as JIRA and Trello. They all come with their own set of opinions, and they all get some things right, and some things wrong.

I think that most teams just want to get their work done without a lot of hassle, they want to actually see what’s going on across projects, and be able to provide a non-bullshit answer to the question of “how long do you think it’s going to take to get this done?”.

Clubhouse is our attempt to build something simple enough for anybody to use, but powerful enough to show what’s going on at every level of the organization.

If you could invite anyone living or dead, real or imaginary to your Clubhouse, who would you invite and why?

We have a ton of data visualization work to do, not to mention just a lot of interesting data to dive into… I think someone like Edward Tufte or Mike Bostock would have a field day. They’re probably too busy though.

BTW, Clubhouse is hiring! If what we’re doing sounds like what you’d like to do, check us out — https://clubhouse.io/hiring
